How we make money
The guides are free. When you book car hire or a tour through some of our links, the company pays us a commission. You pay the same price as you would going to its website directly.

Affiliate links
An affiliate link is a link with a code that tells the partner you came from us. If you book within the partner's tracking period, it pays us a share of what it earns. The price, the cancellation terms and the customer service are the same as if you had found the company yourself.
These are the partners we link to today:
| Partner | What for |
|---|---|
| DiscoverCars | Car hire comparison |
| GetYourGuide | Tours, boat trips and transfers |
| Tripadvisor | Hotel and glamping prices |
We will add a partner to this list before it appears on any page.
How to spot them
Any page with affiliate links says so near the top. Each booking button has a short note next to it, so you know before you click. In the code, these links carry the rel="sponsored" tag, which tells search engines they are commercial links.
The rules we write by
- A place, a tour or a company is never recommended because it pays a commission.
- If you are already hiring a car, the best plan is often to drive yourself, and we say so even when a tour would pay us more.
- When something is not worth the money, we tell you, including tours we could earn from.
- Many recommendations, such as beaches, viewpoints, bars and our hidden gems, have no link to earn from at all.
- We don't publish sponsored posts or sell reviews and rankings.
Our personal plan
We also sell one thing of our own: a personal plan, a day-by-day plan for your trip made by our family. You pay us for the planning. The plan may include affiliate links, marked in the same way, and they follow the same rules: we never put something in your plan because it pays us.
What we don't do
We are not a travel agency and don't sell trips or take bookings. There are no adverts on the site, and we don't sell your data. Our Privacy policy explains what partners can see when you click through.
If this changes
As the site grows, we may show adverts or work directly with local businesses in Madeira. A business we work with directly will be labelled as a partner on every page it appears on, and only one we would recommend anyway will be considered. This page will be updated before either happens.
