Terms of use

Madeira Trip Planner is a free guide to planning a trip to Madeira. By using the site you agree to these terms. They are short, and most of them are about being honest with you.

Last updated 29 October 2026

Who runs the site

The site is run by Michael Martinez, an individual based in Portugal. You can reach him at hello@madeiratripplanner.com.

Information, not bookings

Everything on this site is travel information and advice. Madeira Trip Planner is not a travel agency. We don't sell trips or take bookings for flights, hotels, cars or tours. The only thing we sell is our own personal plan, described below. When you book a car, a tour or a hotel through a link on this site, your contract is with that company, on its terms and at its prices. Problems with a booking, refunds and cancellations are handled by the company you booked with.

The personal plan

The personal plan is a day-by-day travel plan that we write for your trip, with a call to go through it and one round of changes. The price depends on the length of the trip and is shown on the personal plan page before you pay. Sending the form costs nothing and commits you to nothing. We confirm that we can help before we send you a payment link, and you pay the whole amount at once.

Because we start work as soon as you pay, the payment page asks you to agree that we begin straight away and that you lose your right to cancel within 14 days once the plan is delivered. If the plan still does not work for you after the round of changes, ask within 7 days of delivery and before your trip, and we refund the full amount. We also refund you in full if we cannot make the plan.

The plan is advice. You make your own bookings, with the companies you choose and on their terms, and the rest of these terms, including checking conditions on the day, apply to the plan too.

Check before you go

We check facts that change, such as trail fees, booking rules and opening times, against official sources and show when each page was last updated. Rules in Madeira can still change with little notice, and a road or trail can close because of weather or a landslide. Before you set off, confirm the essentials with the official source we link to, especially the IFCN trail status on the day of a hike.

Your safety is your call

Hiking, swimming in the sea and driving mountain roads all carry risk. Our advice describes conditions as we know them and can't replace your own judgement on the day. Follow official warnings and closures, check the weather forecast, choose walks that suit your fitness and turn back when conditions change. In an emergency in Madeira, call 112.

Links to other websites

We link to official sources, partners and other useful sites. We don't control them and aren't responsible for their content, prices or services. Some links are affiliate links, and they are always marked. How that works is explained in How we make money.

Our content

The text, maps and our own photos on this site belong to Madeira Trip Planner. Some photos and video clips come from Unsplash and Pexels and are used under their licences; they are listed on the Photo credits page. You are welcome to link to any page and to quote a short passage with a link back. Please don't copy whole guides, republish our content elsewhere or use it to build another travel guide.

Liability

We write every guide carefully, but the site is provided as it is and we can't promise that every detail is complete or current. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for losses that come from relying on the site or from services booked with third parties. Nothing in these terms limits any right you have as a consumer that the law does not allow us to exclude.

Changes and applicable law

We may update these terms as the site grows, and the date at the top of the page shows the last change. These terms are governed by Portuguese law. If you live elsewhere in the European Union, you keep the protection of the mandatory consumer laws of your country.

How we handle personal data is set out in the Privacy policy and the Cookie policy.
