You can read every page of this site without giving us any personal data. We don't run analytics or advertising trackers, and we only see your email address if you write to us.

Who is responsible for your data
Madeira Trip Planner is run by Michael Martinez, an individual based in Portugal. He is the data controller for this website. For anything about your data, write to hello@madeiratripplanner.com.
What we collect and why
When you visit a page
To send you a page, the server that hosts the site has to receive your IP address, your browser type and the address of the page you asked for. Our host processes this data to deliver the site and to block abusive traffic, and we don't use it to identify you. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in running a secure website (Article 6(1)(f) GDPR).
We don't use analytics, advertising pixels, social media plugins or embedded maps and videos from other companies. The fonts and videos on the site are served from our own domain.
When you email us
If you write to us, we receive your email address, your name if you include it, and whatever you put in the message. We use it to reply and, if you point out a mistake, to correct the page. Our legal basis is our legitimate interest in answering the people who contact us. We keep the conversation for up to 24 months after the last message and then delete it, unless we need it to deal with a legal claim.
When you ask for a personal plan
If you send the personal plan form, we receive what you put in it: your first name, email, WhatsApp number, travel dates and flight times, who is travelling (including children's ages if you give them), where you are staying, whether you will have a car and what you like doing. We use it to reply to you, to make your plan and to send it to you. Our legal basis is taking the steps you asked for before a contract, and then carrying it out (Article 6(1)(b) GDPR). We only email you about other services if you tick the box that asks for it, and you can withdraw that at any time.
Your plan is published on a private web page that search engines are told not to list, with only your first name and dates. We delete the page a few months after your trip. We keep the request and our messages for as long as tax law requires us to keep records of the sale, and then delete them.
When you click a partner link
Some links take you to car hire and tour companies, and they are marked as affiliate links. Once you are on the partner's website, that company collects your data under its own privacy policy, including the cookies it uses to know that you came from us. The partner tells us that a booking was made and what commission it earned. It doesn't send us your name, email or payment details. Read the partner's privacy policy before you book. Who else handles your data
- Cloudflare. Hosts the site and protects it from abuse. It processes IP addresses and request data to serve each page.
Cloudflare is a US company. Transfers of data outside the European Economic Area are covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the European Commission's standard contractual clauses. We don't sell, rent or share your personal data with anyone else.
Your rights
Under the GDPR you can ask us to:
- tell you what personal data we hold about you and give you a copy;
- correct data that is wrong or incomplete;
- delete your data;
- limit how we use it, or object to a use based on our legitimate interests;
- send your data to you or to another service in a common format.
Write to hello@madeiratripplanner.com and we will reply within one month. If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Portuguese data protection authority, the Comissão Nacional de Proteção de Dados (CNPD), or to the authority in the country where you live.
Children
This site is written for adults planning a trip. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 16.
Changes to this policy
We plan to add an email list and a free trip planner. Before either goes live, we will update this policy to say what they collect, and we will ask for your consent where the law requires it. The date at the top of the page always shows the last change.
